Seismic Interpretation

(5 days)

For: Managers, engineers and geologists working on teams with geophysicists

You learn that seismic data are interpreted and not read. You understand the basics about how seismic reflection data are collected in the field and how they are processed and displayed. You discover seismic resolution (what can one "see" in seismic data and what cannot be "seen") and pitfalls which trap the unsuspecting interpreter.

Learn how to interpret two and three dimensional data so as to be able to make maps of subsurface structure and subsurface stratigraphy.

Major Topics Covered:

  • Data Collection Techniques

  • Processing and Display

  • Seismic Resolution

  • Pitfalls in Seismic Interpretation

  • Interpretation of Seismic Structure

  • Interpreting and Mapping Faults

  • Interpreting and Mapping Horizons

  • Seismic Stratigraphic Sequence Analysis

  • Interpretation of 3D Seismic Data
